Lailatul Qadar in English is often translated as Night of Power, or Night of Decree, or Night of Glory to fall in one of the last ten nights of Ramadan. This is the night when Allah sent down the revelations of the Koran. This one night worship is equivalent to 84 years. The night of Lailatul Qadar is also eagerly awaited by Muslims worldwide because it is a night of goodness that exceeds 1,000 months. Worship on the night of Lailatul Qadar.

Very good when done with a sincere heart, to get forgiveness from Allah. One of the narrations says, “Whoever worships on the night of Lailatul Qadar because of faith and sincerity, all their past sins will be forgiven,” [Bukhari and Muslim]. Seeing the importance of the night of Lailatul Qadar in the month of Ramadan, has compiled facts about the night of Lailatul Qadar, along with a review.

  1. The origin of the night of Lailatul Qadar Nuzulul Quran or the time when the Qur’an came down to earth is usually commemorated on the 17th of Ramadan. Allah says in Surah al-Qadr verses 1 to 5, “We have sent it down (the Koran) on the night of glory. Do you know what the night of glory is? The night of glory is better than a thousand months. On that night the angels and Angel Gabriel descended. with God’s permission to arrange all matters. That night (full of) prosperity until dawn. ” From this Surah al-Qadr, it can be concluded that the event that the Qur’an was revealed occurred at Lailatul Qadar, which is described as better than a thousand months. Some commentators argue that the Qur’an was revealed through two processes. The first process, the whole Koran was revealed (jumlatan wahidah) in Baitul Izzah. The second process, the Qur’an was revealed gradually through the angel Jibril to the Prophet Muhammad according to the needs of the people, starting from Surah al-Alaq verses 1-5. The fall of these 5 verses occurred while Muhammad was contemplating in the Hira Cave.
  2. When did the night of Lailatul Qadar fall? The exact date for tonight is unknown. Even so, the Prophet Muhammad gave instructions in the form of a narrative, to find the night of Lailatul Qadar in one of the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially nights with an odd number. This means that the nights of Ramadan 21, 23, 25, 27, and 29 all have high potential to become the nights of Lailatul Qadar. There is a good purpose in this indication of an unknown date, namely to give someone the opportunity to perform additional worship during the last days of Ramadan in the hope of getting the correct date. If one particular night was known, humans would naturally exert all their efforts on that one night alone, and possibly slack off on other nights.
  3. What did Muslims do on the night of Lailatul Qadar? During the night of Lailatul Qadar, many Muslims spend the evening in the mosque where there are additional programs dedicated to cultivating a spiritual environment. In fact, some people will take time off from work to make sure they can stay up all night without having to worry about their work the next day. After Tarawih prayers, the imams will give lectures that encourage Muslims to strengthen their faith and worship.

It is possible for many people to feel exhausted towards the end of Ramadan, but this is the most important time! Worship that has been carried out in the last 10 nights includes, extra prayers, recitation of the Koran, sincere requests, and glorify Allah.

In particular, the Prophet advised Muslims to recite the petition which translates to, “O Allah, truly You are Forgiving, You are pleased to forgive, so forgive me.” Just as a child sees something scary, and then runs to his mother for fear of it, we too must run to God away from punishment.
